Negros Occidental and DOE Finalize Energy Roadmap to Boost Power Security
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — The Negros Occidental Provincial Power Sector Study Group (PPS-SG) has collaborated with the Department of Energy (DOE) to finalize the framework for the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap, aimed at enhancing power security in the region. This initiative, as outlined by former consultant Rafael Coscolluela, focuses on delineating specific interventions to achieve energy goals.
According to Philippines News Agency, led by Jeanette Patindol, the roadmap’s framework was advanced during a two-day planning conference with DOE representatives on June 19 and 20, held at the University of St. La Salle. Participants included officials from the DOE’s Energy Policy and Planning Bureau, Electric Power Industry Management Bureau, Renewable Energy Management Bureau, and the Visayas Field Office. “This conference marks a significant step in the roadmap’s development process,” stated Patindol.
The discussions at the conference built on the findings from the Negros Occidental Power Sector Assessment Study and insights from a Power Summit on May 3. The DOE also contributed its updated Power Outlook and Energy Roadmap, which were thoroughly discussed by the attendees.
Rafael Coscolluela presented the proposed framework for the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap during the conference and invited suggestions and inputs from the participants. This roadmap is a cornerstone of the SecuRE Negros campaign, a provincial initiative committing to energy security through the support of distributed energy systems and the utilization of renewable energy sources.
The completed roadmap is scheduled for presentation to all stakeholders for adoption at an upcoming summit. It follows the #RRAAASEON2030 guideline—Reliable, Renewable, Available, Accessible, Affordable, and Sustainable Energy for Occidental Negros—with the aim of achieving these objectives by 2030.
