NEDA Announces Imminent Issuance of EO to Accelerate Infrastructure Project Approvals
Manila – The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) announced that an executive order (EO) aimed at expediting the processing of licenses and permits for infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs) is expected to be issued before year’s end. This EO is designed to streamline procedures and boost the efficiency of infrastructure development.
According to Philippines News Agency, NEDA Undersecretary Joseph Capuno, speaking at the Pilipinas Conference 2023 in Makati City, stated that the EO is currently undergoing final review and touches at the Office of the President. He expressed confidence that the EO would be issued very soon. The EO will focus on accelerating the approval process for projects already approved by the NEDA board and included in the list of IFPs. This directive will apply to local government units, national government agencies, and regulatory bodies, mandating expedited approvals for these projects. Earlier this year, NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan confirmed the proposal of the EO, emphasizing its role in facilitating the processing of licenses, clearances, and other essential documentation for the Marcos administration’s IFPs. The EO will require all relevant government offices, including LGUs, to streamline standard procedures and requirements for these projects, applicable to both existing and new applications. Balisacan also highlighted that the EO would promote a whole-of-government approach by directing national agencies to automate and computerize their databases, including provisions for electronic application submissions and payment processes.
