MWSS and K-Water Collaborate for Water Security and Green Initiatives

Manila – The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has entered into a three-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Water Resources Development Corporation (K-Water) to enhance the Philippines’ water security and management. MWSS Vice Chairman and Administrator Leonor Cleofas, speaking at a Monday press briefing, emphasized the MOU’s focus on defining projects for the upcoming three years and sharing results with the media. The partnership aims to incorporate best practices and capacity-building strategies in water supply management and address climate change-related water crises.

According to Philippines News Agency, K-Water CEO Yun Seog Dae noted the impact of climate change on water resources in both South Korea and the Philippines, highlighting the need for improved water management systems and alternative water resources. K-Water’s initiatives include the reuse of sewage and wastewater, dissemination of new technologies, and the development of low-flow dams. Additionally, K-Water is transitioning to low-carbon and green innovations, utilizing purification plants, floating solar panels, and renewable energy sources. The collaboration was announced during the 19th Asia Water Council Board of Council Meeting hosted by MWSS in Manila, which focused on strengthening water security, wastewater, and sanitation management. Representatives from Maynilad Water Services Inc., Manila Water Company Inc., Luzon Clean Water Development Corporation, and water industry experts from member countries attended the event.
