Post: Media Conference Highlights New Insurance Policy for Foreign Nationals

Bandar seri begawan: The first phase of a new policy on medical insurance coverage for permanent residents and immigration pass holders came into effect on 1st July 2025, involving several types of immigration passes and permanent resident status categories for foreign nationals. The second phase, the Minister Of Home Affairs stated, will come into effect on 1st January 2026, involving several types of Immigration Passes, namely Company Category Work Pass Holders for the Private Sector, Dependent Wife and Non-Schooling Children Pass Holders and Student Pass Holders who are foreign nationals. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman stated the matter at a Media Conference on the Insurance Requirement Policy for Foreign Nationals and Update of the Health Service Charge Policy, 10th July morning.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Minister Of Home Affairs further explained that the minimum amount of medical insurance coverage is subject to the category of immigration passes applied for and that the insurance coverage must be valid throughout the validity period of the immigration passes or entry permits as follows: Work Pass – $100,000; Social Visit Pass – $10,000; Professional and Business Visit Pass which is for 90 days or less – $10,000; and more than 90 days – $100,000.

Dependent Pass holders are required to have $10,000 in coverage, while Student Pass holders must have $5,000. For Brunei Darussalam’s Permanent Residents who are foreign nationals, the coverage is $100,000 for those contributing to the economy, development, and progress of the country, as well as for those in the professional category.

Insurance coverage can be purchased from insurance companies in Brunei Darussalam or any foreign insurance companies that offer worldwide coverage including in Brunei Darussalam.
