Manila — The Philippines’ President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is scheduled to engage in a discussion with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio about the West Philippine Sea and Japan's Official Development Assistance during Kishida's visit to the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, the meeting between Marcos and Kishida is set for Friday. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) highlighted that the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit from November 3 to 4 will be marked by his bilateral talks with President Marcos.
The DFA noted that the discussions are expected to cover multifaceted and dynamic aspects of the countries’ relations, including political, security, economic, and people-to-people cooperation. The specific agenda items include the situation in the West Philippine Sea, trade and investment opportunities, and the scope of Japan’s Official Development Assistance. Additionally, the two leaders will share insights on major regional, international, and United Nations issues impacting the region and the broader international community.
The official welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Kishida is to be conducted at Malacañan Palace on Friday. This meeting follows President Marcos’s visit to Japan earlier in the year, where he managed to obtain investment commitments amounting to USD 13 billion, anticipated to generate more jobs for the Filipino people.
