Man Impersonating NCRPO Chief Arrested in Olongapo for Fraudulent Activities
Olongapo City, Philippines – Darell John Green, a man of African-American descent, was arrested for posing as Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), to solicit money on social media. NCRPO spokesperson Lt. Col. Eunice Salas, in a message to the Philippine News Agency, stated that Green was apprehended on November 11 in Barangay Barreto, Olongapo City, on charges of robbery and four counts of qualified theft.
According to Philippines News Agency, the NCRPO received reports about a fake Facebook account of Nartatez used for soliciting funds for basketball uniforms. The suspect directed victims to send donations to a GCash number linked to a former police officer’s name. Further investigation revealed that Green also created fake Viber and Instagram accounts using the same cellular number associated with the GCash account. Salas noted that many did not fall for the scam, recognizing that the regional director would not engage in such activities. The suspect had also used the identities of other police officers, including the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan and former Pasay City police chief Col. Froilan Uy, for fraudulent schemes. Following the discovery of the scam, Nartatez ordered a thorough investigation. Seized from Green were a mobile phone, identification cards, and SIM cards. He is currently detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City and faces additional charges for computer-related identity theft and estafa under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. Nartatez has urged potential victims to file complaints and has warned the public against involvement in such fraudulent activities.
