Lucena City - Approximately 500 households, amounting to 3,100 residents, in Barangay Domoit in Lucena City now have access to an uninterrupted supply of clean water, thanks to the installation of solar-powered pumps. The project, inaugurated on Monday, was funded by the office of Quezon 2nd District Rep. David Suarez and executed by the Department of Public Works and Highways' (DPWH) second Engineering Office.
According to Philippines News Agency, the project includes two separate water systems, each equipped with its own submersible pump, solar panels, and elevated water tanks. One system serves Purok Jasmin, while the other caters to Purok Dama de Noche. During the inauguration, Suarez mentioned that these systems are capable of producing around 80 cubic meters of water daily. The combined cost of the two solar water systems is approximately PHP 10 million.
Suarez emphasized the durability of the solar panels, noting a lifespan of 30 years with proper maintenance. He advised the residents to use the systems carefully and consider a minimal monthly fee for their upkeep. Notably, the system in Purok Dama de Noche includes filtration equipment to ensure the water is potable. To date, Suarez’s office has sponsored the installation of solar-powered water systems in 18 villages within Lucena City.
