LRT-1 Cavite Extension Nears Completion, Targets Q4 2024 Opening

Manila – The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension project has reached 94.1 percent completion in its civil and system works as of the third quarter of 2023.

According to Philippines News Agency, the five new stations are on schedule to be operational by the last quarter of 2024. The stations include Redemptorist Station at 86.3 percent completion, Manila International Airport (MIA) Station at 86.9 percent, Asia World Station at 72.9 percent, Ninoy Aquino Station at 81.5 percent, and Dr. Santos Station at 90.5 percent completion.

The LRMC emphasized the importance of safety in the construction process, noting that to date, the project has achieved 11.8 million ‘safe man-hours’ without a lost time incident. Juan Alfonso, president and CEO of LRMC, expressed confidence in the timely commencement of commercial operations for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension. He highlighted the modern railway experience the extension will offer, including world-class amenities, user-friendly facilities, and high safety standards. The first phase of the Cavite Extension includes a 6.7-kilometer mainline extension and five stations, which will be connected to other transport hubs such as the MIA, the ParaƱaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), a bus terminal in Cavite, and an interconnection with SM City Sucat.
