Local Business Owners Fined for Violating Employment Order
Bandar seri begawan: Two local company owners were fined by the Magistrate Court for failing to pay their employee’s salary for two months. Awang Mohammad Khairul Anam bin Haji Sulaiman and Haji Mohd Asyraf bin Haji Sisa/Haji Isa, owners of Syarikat Qharoof Sendirian Berhad, pleaded guilty to four charges under the Employment Order, 2009.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Department of Labour discovered that the two employers failed to pay the balance of the employee’s salary amounting to BND$1,000 each. As a consequence, they were each fined BND $1,200 or faced one month of imprisonment in default. The Department of Labour has reiterated the importance for employers to always comply with the labour law to avoid such penalties.
