Post: Land Code Amendment Order 2025 Establishes New Lease Periods for Developments

Bandar seri begawan: The Land Code (Amendment) Order 2025 introduces new regulations regarding the maximum lease periods for various types of land use. The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Corporate and Law at the Ministry of Development elaborated that residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments can now have a lease period of up to 60 years. This amendment will be effective starting August 1, 2025, as stated by Dayang Aldila Binti Haji Mohamad Salleh during an interview with ‘Rampai Pagi.’

According to Radio Television Brunei, shophouses and industrial properties are subject to a maximum lease period of 30 years. All lease applications require approval from the relevant authorities. Upon lease expiration, the land reverts to the original owner unless an extension is applied for by the leaseholder. The granting of such extensions remains at the discretion of the authorities.
