Consumer Price Index Records 0.5% Decrease in May 2025
Bandar seri begawan: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in May 2025 recorded a decrease of 0.5 percent compared to May 2024, driven by declines of 0.8 percent in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index and 0.4 percent in the Non-Food index. On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in May 2025 decreased by 0.1 percent compared to April 2025. This shift was largely due to decreases in both the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index, as well as the Non-Food index.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the decrease in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index was mainly attributed to lower prices of vegetables, fish, and seafood, with significant contributions from reductions in the prices of chicken and fresh fish. On the Non-Food front, the index’s decline was primarily driven by reductions in prices of motor cars and airfares. Additionally, the cost of online media streaming subscription services also recorded a decrease due to exchange rate differences.
