Influenza Cases Show No Increase in Brunei Darussalam
Bandar seri begawan: No increase in influenza cases has been reported in Brunei Darussalam for this year, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health. This report comes in the wake of rising influenza infections in a neighbouring country. Influenza, an acute respiratory infection caused by Influenza viruses such as Influenza A or B, typically manifests with mild symptoms including fever, runny nose, sore throat, or cough.
According to Radio Television Brunei, 207 influenza cases have been confirmed from January to October 15, 2025, compared to 259 cases for the same period in 2024. Of the total cases this year, 19 percent were among children under the age of 12. To date, no clusters of cases or deaths related to influenza have been reported. Monitoring by the Ministry of Health reveals that the main type of influenza virus identified this year is Influenza A, H1N1, accounting for 61 percent of cases, followed by Influenza A, H3, at 20 percent and Influenza B at 11 percent.
The public is advised to practice preventive measures, including maintaining a high level of personal hygiene, washing hands frequently, practicing proper cough and sneeze etiquette, wearing a face mask, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen, and continuously practicing a healthy lifestyle. The public, particularly those at high risk of severe influenza infections, is encouraged to receive the latest influenza vaccination.
