DFA Announces Transfer of End-of-Service Benefit Processing to DMW for Overseas Filipino Workers

MANDALUYONG CITY — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has officially transferred the responsibility of processing end-of-service benefits (ESB) for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), particularly those in the Middle East, to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

According to Philippines News Agency, this change took effect on February 4, marking a significant shift in the administration of ESB claims for OFWs who have recently ended their employment, as well as for the beneficiaries or next-of-kin of deceased OFWs. These groups are now directed to submit new applications for ESB claims directly to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) located at Philippine embassies or consulates, or at the DMW head office in Mandaluyong City.

The DFA clarified that it would continue to process ESB applications that were submitted and remitted through the DFA or its foreign service posts before the February 4 cutoff. Meanwhile, any ESB claims that have already been submitted to the MWO or DMW will proceed to be processed by these offices.

Furthermore, employers of OFWs in the Middle East are advised to direct any new ESB remittances to the designated bank or bank account of the MWO at the nearest Philippine embassy or consulates. This guidance aims to streamline the process and ensure that the benefits are delivered efficiently to the rightful beneficiaries.

The DFA encourages OFWs and their beneficiaries to visit the MWO at their nearest Philippine Foreign Service Post for more detailed information and assistance regarding their ESB claims. This move to transfer ESB processing functions to the DMW aligns with the DFA’s compliance with the Department of Migrant Workers Act, intending to provide seamless and efficient services for Filipino compatriots abroad.
