Government Work and Classes Suspended in Metro Manila Due to Typhoon Carina and Monsoon

MANILA — Due to severe weather conditions caused by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon, Malacañang has announced the suspension of government work and classes across all levels in Metro Manila, effective Tuesday afternoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, acting on the authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Memorandum Circular 57 was signed to implement the suspension starting at 2 p.m. The directive aims to ensure the safety of students and government workers amid the worsening weather conditions. However, agencies responsible for the delivery of basic and health services, disaster response, and other critical functions are required to continue operations and maintain necessary services during this period.

The memorandum also notes that the decision to suspend work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads, allowing them to assess and respond to the specific conditions in their areas.

This precautionary measure reflects the government’s commitment to public safety in response to the ongoing impact of Typhoon Carina and the habagat, which have significantly affected the region’s weather.
