Four Dead, Three Injured in Dumaguete Road Collision
DUMAGUETE — Four individuals died and three others were injured in a collision between a car and a cement mixer truck in Dumaguete, the capital city of Negros Oriental, early Saturday morning. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the victims, who were traveling in a Toyota Avanza, were all from Luzon. NOPPO spokesperson Lt. Stephen Polinar stated that the identities of the deceased, one male and three females, are being withheld until their next of kin have been notified.
Police investigations revealed that the accident occurred around 4 a.m. as the Avanza was heading southbound. The vehicle collided with the truck, which was traveling in the opposite direction, on a curved section of the diversion road in Barangay Batinguel. The impact of the collision resulted in the immediate deaths of the four individuals in the Avanza.
Three other passengers, aged 17, 15, and 19, were injured and transported to Silliman University Medical Center for treatment. The 43-year-old truck driver, a resident of Barangay Tinago in Dumaguete, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides and multiple physical injuries.
A post-mortem examination of the four fatalities has been requested to assist in the ongoing investigation.
