False Information Regarding Launch of Government Bond Platform
Bandar seri begawan: The Ministry of Finance and Economy has issued a statement clarifying that an article published on a website, titled ‘Brunei Darussalam government launches government bond platform’ and dated 6 October 2025, is false. The public is urged to verify the authenticity of such articles before trusting them.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the ministry highlighted that impersonation for the purpose of cheating is an offense under Section 419 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, punishable by up to 7 years of imprisonment and a fine upon conviction. Additionally, spreading false information that may cause public alarm is a criminal offense under Section 34 of the Public Order Act, Chapter 148, with penalties including a fine of $3,000 Brunei Dollars, 3 years of imprisonment, or both. Individuals are encouraged to report any suspicious financial activities to Brunei Darussalam Central Bank, BDCB, or the Anti-Scam at 16993. Victims of scams should immediately report to their bank or financial institution and the Royal Brunei Police Force.
