Post: Dusun Ethnic Symposium Celebrates Heritage and Identity

Tutong: In an effort to preserve the heritage and strengthen the cultural identity of the Dusun and Bisaya communities, the Sang Jati Dusun Ethnic Symposium was held in conjunction with the Adau Gayoh Celebration. The symposium, themed 'Kasintoh,' is a term in the Dusun and Bisaya languages, which means 'TO REMEMBER'. The event took place at the Tutong District Civic Centre on the morning of May 12th.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the symposium was graced by the presence of Awang Haji Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri, Acting Tutong District Officer. It was organised by the Kampung Pengkalan Mau, Bakiau, and Batang Mitus Consultative Councils, in collaboration with the Tutong District Mukim and Village Institutions and Members of the Executive Committee of Dusun and Bisaya Customs of Brunei Darussalam. The event brought together scholars, community leaders, and the public to discuss the heritage, history, and future of the two ethnic groups.

A total of 11 key papers and four accompanying working papers were presented, involving the participation of local and foreign speakers, including those from Sabah. Members of the Legislative Council were also present, emphasizing the significance of the symposium in fostering dialogue and understanding about the Dusun and Bisaya communities.
