Post: Customs Case: Two Local Men Fined for Possessing Contraband Without Permit

Temburong: Two local men were each fined BND50,000 or sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for the first offence of possessing 50 cartons of cigarettes without a permit.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the individuals, 31-year-old Muhammad Affan Zulkernain Bin Berundang @ Dimas Anak Berundang and 29-year-old Mohammad Rafie Bin Nokman, were also fined BND5,000 each or faced an additional 5 months imprisonment for a second offence. This involved possessing 24 bottles of alcoholic drinks without a permit. The arrest, made in front of Puni Mosque in Temburong on December 2, 2024, resulted in a total fine of BND55,000 for each person or a default total imprisonment of 20 months.

The authorities seized all contraband, including cigarettes and alcoholic drinks of various brands, which are to be destroyed.
