Post: CPI Sees Modest Increase in May 2024 Despite Year-on-Year Decline

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM — The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Brunei Darussalam rose by 0.3 percent in May 2024 compared to April 2024, primarily influenced by higher prices in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Non-Food indices. Despite this monthly increase, the CPI registered a year-on-year decrease of 0.2 percent compared to May 2023.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Ministry of Finance and Economy, the decrease in the Non-Food index over the past year was largely due to reductions in communication and transport costs, including a significant drop in airfare prices. Conversely, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index experienced an uptick, driven by higher prices for ready-to-consume drinks and milk, dairy products, and eggs.
