Courtesy Call by President of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia

Kuala lumpur: His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received a Courtesy Call by Mr. Tetsuya Watanabe, President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and attended a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty first received the Courtesy Call from the President of ERIA. During the meeting, His Majesty emphasized Brunei Darussalam’s active efforts to operationalize the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change in Brunei, aiming to serve as a regional knowledge hub to enhance cooperation on climate action. He acknowledged ERIA’s partnership in organizing the Regional Workshop on Climate Change in Brunei this year.

His Majesty shared that Brunei is undertaking a national assessment to understand better the impacts of climate change on the economy, food and water security, and biodiversity. The nation’s initiatives are directed towards transitioning to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy by expanding renewable energy and clean technologies for industrial growth. Brunei welcomes ERIA’s support through research collaboration and expert exchanges in this area.

Brunei Darussalam and ERIA maintain a close and active partnership focused on key areas such as energy, sustainable development, and digital innovation. ERIA provides research and policy recommendations to support ASEAN and the East Asia Summit (EAS), with Brunei leveraging ERIA’s expertise to develop its economic strategy.
