Sultan of Brunei Highlights Challenges for Graduates at UK Defence Academy Ceremony

Shrivenham: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, emphasized the real and demanding professional challenges awaiting the graduates of the 28th Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) as they return to their respective services. His Majesty’s address was part of the Closing Ceremony held at the United Kingdom Defence Academy in Shrivenham, where he noted that these challenges are particularly significant for those dealing with national security threats.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Closing Ceremony was attended by His Majesty alongside Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah. The event took place at the Cormorant Building, Joint Services Command and Staff College, where His Majesty was warmly received by His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, Chief of the Defence Staff, and several high-ranking officials from the Defence Academy and King’s College London.

During the ceremony, His Majesty presented the Cormorant Award to Lieutenant Colonel Fabrice Dubosson of the Swiss Armed Forces and awarded the Pass Staff College Joint Certificate and Cormorant Pin to His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince ‘Abdul Mateen for successfully completing the course. The ACSC is aimed at preparing military officers and mid-level civil servants for senior leadership roles, with the Cormorant Pin recognizing international course members.

The event also featured a Fly Past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in honour of His Majesty. The ceremony concluded with His Majesty engaging with award recipients and sponsors. This year’s ACSC saw participation from 260 future leaders representing 50 allied and partner countries.
