Comelec Launches ‘Register Anywhere Program’ in Bicol to Boost Voter Registration
LEGAZPI CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bicol initiated its Register Anywhere Program (RAP) on Monday, aiming to expand voter registration access across the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the program was kicked off as part of the National Voter’s Day celebration at SM City Legazpi, marking a significant move to allow potential voters to register regardless of their location within the country.
The initiative, designed to make voter registration more accessible and inclusive, has been welcomed in at least seven areas across the six provinces of Bicol. Valeza emphasized the commission’s commitment to reaching out to the public, ensuring that the process is convenient and that the service is felt by the people, which is expected to result in an increase in the number of registered voters. The RAP sites, operational from February 12 to August 31, are located in Virac, Catanduanes; Sorsogon City, Sorsogon; Masbate City, Masbate; Legazpi City, Albay; Daet, Camarines Norte; and Pili and Naga City in Camarines Sur.
In addition to new voter registration, the RAP sites will also handle reactivation, transfers (both within and from other areas), corrections of entries, reinstatements, and transfers of registration from overseas to local. Valeza highlighted the streamlined process, noting that registrants now only need to fill out a single form, simplifying a process that previously required three forms.
Comelec-Albay election supervisor Ma. Aurea Bo-Bunao encouraged residents to register early and avoid last-minute rushes. The Comelec offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday, to accommodate registrants. Local resident Ryan Pasamba shared his positive experience with the program, noting the convenience and efficiency of the process when he transferred his registration within the city.
To register, individuals must be Filipino citizens, at least 18 years old by election day on May 12, 2025, have been residents of the Philippines for at least one year, and in their voting location for at least six months before the 2025 midterm polls, and not be disqualified by law.
