BEIJING - China has officially condemned the United States for deploying intermediate-range ballistic missiles to the Philippines, declaring the move a serious threat to regional stability and peace. The Chinese government has called for an immediate reversal of this military action, which it views as a provocative step backwards in regional relations.
According to Philippines News Agency, the deployment disrupts the pursuit of peace and development cherished by nations in the region. "The deployment is a move to turn back the wheel of history, and it gravely threatens regional countries' security, undermines regional peace and stability," Mao stated, urging involved countries to reconsider their strategy and withdraw from this path.
The controversy arises amid recent activities involving the US military's presence in the Philippines. Reports indicate that US military equipment was removed following joint exercises with the Philippine military, as noted by a Philippine official last Thursday. Currently, the Philippines hosts the US land-based missile system named "Typhoon," which is managed and maintained by trained Philippine military personnel. This system is expected to remain in the Philippines until September as part of the "Balikatan 2024" joint military drills conducted in late April.
Both the US and the Philippines have yet to respond to China's statements, leaving the international community watching closely for any developments in this escalating situation.
