Cebu City Intensifies Anti-Flooding Measures with New Declogging Equipment
CEBU CITY – Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia of Cebu City has urged residents to prepare for the upcoming rainy season by supporting the city’s Task Force Gubat sa Baha in its initiatives to mitigate flooding. The call for readiness comes as the task force plans to enhance its capabilities with new declogging machines.
According to Philippines News Agency, the proposal for accelerated purchase of the equipment was put forth by Melquiades Feliciano, the task force’s chief implementer, during a presentation on Monday. The plan aims to bolster the city’s efforts against flooding, which have become increasingly urgent. “The task force is on top of the effort to address flooding in our city. Chief implementer Feliciano has presented a plan on how to do it,” Garcia told the Philippine News Agency.
Feliciano highlighted the necessity of declogging machines for manually cleaning drainage systems, canals, and streams during his presentation. The equipment is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of clearing water pathways to prevent the accumulation of water during heavy rains. The cleanup operations will be conducted by members of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Department of Engineering and Public Works, and the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) team.
