Post: CCC Advocates Unified National Effort for Climate Adaptation Plan in the Philippines

QUEZON CITY – A senior official from the Climate Change Commission (CCC) emphasized the need for a comprehensive national effort to implement the Philippines' National Adaptation Plan (NAP), which aims to mitigate risks associated with climate change.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippines has officially submitted its NAP to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The plan calls for the integration of climate change adaptation measures across all relevant sectors, requiring collaboration not only from CCC but also from national agencies, the private sector, scientific communities, academic institutions, and local governments.

Cuenca explained that the NAP is designed to enhance the country’s resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change by incorporating adaptation strategies into national policies and programs. "Each sector — private, academic, government — has specific roles, and the NAP ensures that all these actions are coherent and unified towards a common goal," he said. This strategy aims to transform the plan from a mere proposal by the CCC into a nationwide movement.

The NAP outlines the processes for identifying priority areas that are particularly vulnerable to climate impacts. It also sets guidelines for integrating climate adaptation into the planning, coordination, and implementation at all levels of governance and throughout society, ensuring that national efforts align with international climate commitments.

Cuenca highlighted the urgency of recognizing the sectors and geographic areas most at risk from climate change, underscoring the need for a strategic response that encompasses the entire nation.
