Cagayan de Oro Prepares for Potential Water Service Interruptions

Cagayan de Oro City – In response to potential prolonged water supply disruptions, the local government of Cagayan de Oro has developed a contingency plan to ensure residents have access to water.

According to Philippines News Agency, chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department, the plan includes the installation of “water bladders” or tanks at strategic locations throughout the city’s barangays. This initiative, developed during a strategic planning session by the Task Force Water Supply, will involve coordination with barangay officials and the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) to identify key drop-off points for water distribution. The move comes in the wake of a payment dispute between COWD and its bulk water supplier, which has threatened to disconnect service, potentially affecting 40,000 households in the city’s eastern region.
