Brunei’s Crown Prince Attends West Lake Open Badminton Tournament


TUTONG DISTRICT, BRUNEI — The 9th West Lake Open Badminton Tournament concluded on August 4, 2024, at Chung Hwa School Kiudang, with royal presence elevating the event. His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, along with Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, attended the finals, witnessing young badminton talents including their son.



According to Radio Television Brunei, the Crown Prince’s family was warmly received by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The event was notable not only for its competitive spirit but also for the participation of His Royal Highness’ son, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman, who competed in the Under 10 Boy’s Singles category final.



In a closely contested final, Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman finished second, losing to Muhammad Nabhan Kamil with scores of 21-15, 21-19. The tournament featured several categories, with the Crown Prince himself presenting the awards to the winners.



The championship, supported by CHSK Badminton, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association, highlighted the nation’s commitment to fostering sporting excellence among its youth.
