Brunei Olympic Council President Calls for Strategic Planning in Athlete Development


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI – During the National Flag Handover Ceremony at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on July 29th, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, emphasized the importance of detailed planning in sports to achieve Olympic qualification without relying on Universality Places.



In his address, His Royal Highness urged athletes, coaches, and national sports associations to adopt more comprehensive planning strategies to enhance the potential of Bruneian athletes competing on the global stage. The ceremony, marking the official send-off for Brunei’s contingent to the 33rd Olympics in Paris, highlighted the nation’s commitment to clean sports, as echoed by Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who also advised athletes to steer clear of prohibited substances. The national flag was handed over to Dayang Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim, Director of Youth and Sports and the Chef de Mission for the contingent, which will compete in track and field and swimming.
