Brunei Hosts International Conference to Tackle Non-Communicable Diseases
Bandar seri begawan: For the past two decades, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through the Ministry of Health, has taken steps to combat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) through the Multi-Sectoral National Action Plan on the Prevention and Control of NCDs. The Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, discussed these initiatives during the inauguration of the International Non-Communicable Diseases Exhibition and Conference 2025. He highlighted efforts such as increasing access to essential medicines and implementing prevention, early detection, treatment, and palliative care measures, including free cancer screening for local citizens. However, he emphasized the need for further action and collaboration from all parties involved in addressing NCDs. The event took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Doctor Dayang Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Gharif, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, stated in her speech that the conference underscores the country’s commitment to health equity, innovation, and collaboration. The event aims to enhance cooperation between the community and health providers in tackling the challenges posed by non-communicable diseases and to reinforce the nation’s dedication to fostering a healthier and more resilient society.
