Brunei Darussalam Population to Reach 455,500 in 2024
Bandar Seri Begawan: The estimated population of Brunei Darussalam for 2024 is projected to be 455,500 persons, marking a slight increase from 450,500 persons in 2023. This reflects an annual growth rate of 1.1 percent, maintaining the same pace as observed in the previous year.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the total population in 2024 is expected to consist of 240,700 males and 214,800 females, resulting in a sex ratio of 112.1 males for every 100 females. Brunei Citizens form the largest segment with 346,000 persons, while Permanent Residents and Temporary Residents account for 2,300 persons and 82,000 persons, respectively, making up 18.1 percent of the population.
Brunei Muara District is projected to have the highest population, followed by Belait District, Tutong District, and Temburong District. In terms of age distribution, approximately 19.9 percent of the population will be under 15 years of age, 72.8 percent will fall within the 15-64 age bracket, and 7.3 percent will be aged 65 years and above. The median age is expected to be 32.4 years in 2024, slightly lower than 32.5 years in the previous year.
The Malays will continue to form the largest community, comprising 73.7 percent of the total population. The Chinese and other racial groups will represent 9.6 percent and 16.7 percent of the population, respectively. The Report of the Population Estimates 2024 is available on the DEPS website.
