Brunei Darussalam and Laos Strengthen Diplomatic Ties Through Audience Ceremony
Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, received His Excellency Thongsavan Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in an audience ceremony at Istana Nurul Iman. The event took place during the afternoon of October 20th as part of His Excellency’s three-day official visit to Brunei.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the visit underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their diplomatic relations. His Excellency Thongsavan Phomvihane was accompanied by His Excellency Heuankeo Sangsomsak, Ambassador Extraordinary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Brunei Darussalam. The ceremony was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohammad Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Brunei Darussalam and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic have recently elevated their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, following the state visit of His Majesty to Laos in 2023. The two countries have made progress in cooperation, particularly in education, people-to-people exchanges, and trade, with a focus on the agricultural sector.
His Excellency Thongsavan Phomvihane’s visit aims to further strengthen this cooperation and explore new opportunities for mutual benefit. Both Brunei Darussalam and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic are committed to expanding their collaboration in various sectors, reinforcing the strong ties between the two nations.
