BOC Launches Investigation into Alleged Recycling and Resale of Seized Vape Products
MANILA — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has initiated an investigation into the alleged recycling and resale of confiscated vape products, Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio announced on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the investigation will be led by the Intelligence Group under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy. The probe aims to uncover the full scope and details of the vape products, which were recently confiscated and reportedly placed under a ‘safekeeping order’ by a Mission Order. The exact quantity of the vapes involved is currently being verified.
Rubio highlighted that the investigation is also set to determine any potential involvement of BOC personnel in the recycling and resale activities. The scope of the inquiry will include assessing possible administrative and criminal liabilities. He has mandated the Intelligence Group to provide weekly status updates and to deliver a comprehensive fact-finding report within 30 days.
In addition to addressing the vape product allegations, Rubio reassured the public regarding the security of counterfeit goods valued at PHP11 billion recently seized in Binondo, Manila. He confirmed that these goods are securely held and will undergo proper seizure and forfeiture procedures in compliance with the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and other relevant regulations.
