$4,100 in Compounds Issued Under the Miscellaneous Offences Act
A total of twenty individuals and three companies have been issued compound fines amounting to $4,100 for littering in public places and streets, an offence under the Miscellaneous Offences Act Amendment 2021.
According to Radio Television Brunei,The amendment stipulates that individuals can face a compound fine not exceeding $1,000, while corporate bodies may incur a compound fine not exceeding $2,000 for offences under Section 12 or any other related offences. The companies fined during the ‘Operasi Bersih’ include Farhana Muhd Enterprise, Sing Hiap Hin Motor Company, and Syarikat Pg Haji Yusuf bin Pg Daud dan Anak-anak. Additionally, 15 foreigners, a permanent resident, and four locals were also issued compound fines.
According to the Miscellaneous Offences Act Amendment 2021, individuals and corporate bodies who fail to settle their compound fines and are subsequently sentenced by the court are required to pay their respective fines within 7 days.
