Post: Bacolod City Receives Funding for Public Plaza Enhancement from TIEZA

BACOLOD CITY - The city government announced receiving approval for funding from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) for the upgrade, renovation, and beautification of the public plaza.

According to Philippines News Agency, the project, endorsed by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, aims to improve the plaza's fountains and lighting fixtures, with plans to incorporate enhanced fountains, lights, and music into the design.

In December, the city sought PHP300 million from the Department of Tourism (DOT) and TIEZA for improvements at the public plaza and Government Center, requesting PHP80 million for the plaza's water fountains and PHP220 million for renovations at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds. The city council had previously passed a resolution in support of the funding request to foster tourism development.

Furthermore, Mayor Benitez discussed the renovation plans with Bishop Patricio Buzon of the Diocese of Bacolod City, highlighting efforts to address the issue of illegal vendors. The Rizal Street area of the plaza, under a usufruct agreement with the Diocese, is expected to see significant improvements, with the bishop expressing hope for the sustainability of these enhancements.
