Joint Operation

A Joint Operation was conducted by the Licensing and Enforcement Unit, Temburong District Office with the Employee Trusts Fund, TAP; Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, DEPS through the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Weights and Measures Unit, Industry and Business Ecosystem Division under the Ministry of Finance and Economy. The operation targeted 7 premises in Bangar Town, Kampung Menengah and Kampung Rataie.

Three companies were issued compound fines for offences under the Miscellaneous Offences Act, for disposing rubbish at non-designated areas. The overall fines for the companies were two thousand dollars. The companies were given a week to settle the compounds and ordered to clean the areas. If found guilty, the company can be fined not more than one thousand dollar for the first offence. For the second or subsequent offences, can be fined not more than 3 thousand dollars and imprisonment of not more than 3 months.

TAP enforcement officers also found two local staff not registered under the TAP. The employers who failed to present the necessary documents were instructed to come to the TAP office for further actions, from processing the registration of their employees to making payment of contribution and arrears, if any. Under Section 35, National Retirement Scheme Order, 2023, if found guilty, employer can be fined not less than $3,000 for the first offence. For the second or subsequent offences, can be fined not more than $10,000.

Meanwhile, DEPS also issued two warning notices and two $500 compound fines to THREE companies for offences under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 for selling cooking oil and infant formula milk powder exceeding the maximum set prices as well as failure to display price tag for several items sold at the business premise. Businesses are reminded to conduct business activities ethically and not mislead consumers by complying with the Act. The SDT Unit also found five units of weighing machines used for business purposes. A Seizure Notice was issued against Ya-Nur Restaurant at Batu Apoi for unregistered weighing machine. The company owner are required to register the said equipment used for trade within seven working days from the notice issued date. The machine was also confiscated.
