ASEAN Ministers Address Rising Cybersecurity Threats at AMCC and SICW
Bandar seri begawan: The Association of South East Asian Nations, ASEAN, including Brunei Darussalam, is confronting significant cybersecurity threats from cyber-criminals exploiting system vulnerabilities and advanced persistent threat actors in the region. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications emphasized the necessity of enhancing regional cybersecurity cooperation, coordination, and capacity building initiatives.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, the Minister-in-Charge of Cybersecurity, highlighted these issues during the 10th ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity (AMCC) and the 10th Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) in Singapore. The conference saw ASEAN Ministers collectively stress the need for ongoing regional partnerships to tackle evolving cybersecurity challenges, including AI-driven attacks and potential quantum-powered cyber threats. The AMCC was chaired by Her Excellency Josephine Teo, Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information and Minister-in-charge of Cyber Security.
The 10th Singapore International Cyber Week included a panel session themed ‘Shaping the Next Era of Global Cybersecurity.’ The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications participated as a panellist in a High-Level Panel, discussing the importance of structured collaboration and value-based partnerships that align with national development goals.
In addition, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary engaged in a bilateral meeting with Her Excellency Josephine Teo. The discussion centered on enhancing cooperation in cybersecurity policy development, digital infrastructure, and emerging technologies, particularly supporting ASEAN’s digital economy agenda.
