Active Weather Forecast: 15 – 17 December 2022

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the first phase of the Northeast Monsoon, where generally unsettled weather conditions with showers or thunderstorms, heavy at times, are expected especially at night until early morning. Acting Chief Meteorological Officer in an interview with RTB News yesterday afternoon stated that weather condition over Brunei Darussalam is forecasted to be active starting tomorrow, 15th December until Saturday, 17th December.

Awang Hassanul Kamal bin Haji Adam said this condition normally enhances the development of rain clouds and thus increases rainfall activity in our country. Showers, heavy and thundery at times, are expected with wind speed that may reach up to 45 kilometres per hour during or near heavy showers. Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, wave condition is at slight to moderate state, with wave height of 0.6 meter to 1.4 meter.

The public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide. Risk of landslide and falling trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition. Road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety. The Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the weather conditions and will issue weather advisories or warnings if necessary.
