$90 Million Seafood Market Set to Elevate Northern Iloilo’s Tourism
ESTANCIA, ILOILO – A new seafood market, funded by the national government, is poised to enhance tourism in northern Iloilo, drawing both local and international visitors to the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the project, which began three years ago with an initial allocation of PHP 50 million, is strategically positioned at Estancia port, offering picturesque views of the surrounding islands. This location is expected to leverage the area’s increasing tourist influx, which saw a significant rise in 2023. Tupas, who recently inspected the site with Estancia Mayor Mary Lynn Mosqueda, emphasized the market’s potential to become a pivotal attraction in the district, which accounted for approximately 40% of last year’s total tourist arrivals in Iloilo.
Currently, the two-story market structure is 90 percent complete and plans to feature 200 stalls, aiming to provide a substantial boost to the local economy by showcasing the region’s rich seafood offerings. This development is anticipated to not only attract more visitors but also to enhance the culinary experience available to tourists in northern Iloilo.
