PCSO Chairperson Junie E. Cua Warns Against Online Scammers Misusing Agency’s Name
Manila — Chairperson Junie E. Cua of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) issued a warning on Thursday against online scammers using his name, the names of other PCSO officials, and the agency’s logo for fraudulent activities.
According to a new release by the Philippines News Agency, Cua urged the public to be vigilant and to rely solely on official channels for any information regarding the agency. In a statement, Cua said, “I urge the public to remain vigilant against scammers who attempt to use the PCSO for their selfish and criminal objectives.” He also cautioned the public to be aware of ‘red flags’ to help detect scam attempts.
Cua highlighted that any information about the PCSO should only be trusted if it comes from the agency’s official social media accounts, his sole Facebook account under the name Junie Cua, or from verified radio and television broadcasts.
The Chairperson made it clear that the PCSO does not ask for sensitive information such as bank records or social security details. He further warned against clicking on links received through social media or text messages, stating that the PCSO does not send ‘urgent’ messages nor engage in scare tactics.
“For the record, the agency does not ask for money in exchange for number combinations or prizes,” Cua emphasized. He encouraged the public to refrain from giving money for any purported winning numbers or prizes.
Cua concluded by noting that while the government is actively working to crack down on online scammers, it remains crucial for individuals to arm themselves with proper knowledge to avoid falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
