A multi-agency operation took place along the Brunei River last Wednesday to prevent crimes and detect offences related to licensing, registration and operation of water taxis.
A total of 129 personnel from various law enforcement agencies took part in the joint operation led by the Marine Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).
The participating agencies included the Royal Brunei Navy, Royal Customs and Excise Department, the Immigration and National Registration Department, Narcotics Control Bureau, Fisheries Department, Internal Security Department and Halal Food Control Division.
The five-hour river operation discovered several offences which included the smuggling of contraband goods and violations in licensing and registration under the Fisheries Act. The Marine Police advised the public particularly operators of water taxis and passengers to comply with all laws and regulations such as wearing life jackets.
Boat drivers were also advised to be more vigilant especially at night and during bad weather. The public are urged to always cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to combat any crimes in Brunei waters.
