Unsettled Weather Conditions This Week

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Southwest Monsoon period, where generally fair weather in the morning and showers in the afternoon. As of 11 yesterday morning, two tropical storms were observed, namely Tropical Storm MaOn and Tropical Storm Tokage. Tropical Storm MaOn is forecasted to move North-westwards and Tropical Storm Tokage is forecasted to move North-eastwards, and both tropical storms are expected to move further away from our country.

However Tropical Storm MaOn will indirectly cause unsettled weather conditions this week especially on 24th and 25th August. Occasional showers or thundershowers are expected to cross land and sea areas, especially at night until early morning. Showers can be heavy and gusty at times with wind speed may increase up to 45 kilometres per hour. Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally slight, between 0.4 to 0.8 metre. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during heavy rain and also during high tide. Risk of landslide and falling trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition.
