His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancelor of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA officiated the 6th Mahrajan Hafl al-Takharruj, or Convocation Festival of UNISSA.
At the ceremony, His Royal Highness launched new books published by UNISSA, which are hoped to become reference materials for researchers. The function took place yesterdayat the International Convention Centre.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education as Chairman of UNISSA Council, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Deputy Chairman of UNISSA Council, and Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of UNISSA, as Chairman of 6th UNISSA’s Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj Executive Committee.
The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and doa selamat was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
Subsequently, His Royal Highness officiated the 6th UNISSA’s 6th UNISSA’s Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj.
His Royal Highness then proceeded to view an exhibition showcasing the history of Islamic economic and financial development that began from the pre-Islamic days until this modern day. Economic depression during the colonisation era of the West on Islamic countries has raised an awareness to the Muslim ummah to revive their economy and finance based on Islam. In Brunei Darussalam, the economic and financial development process based on Islam was portrayed in the form of support of the government towards the development and enhancement in fields of finance, entrepreneurship as well as education.
Several government department and finance agencies took part in the exhibition, namely the Museums Department, Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, AMBD, Department of Economic Planning and Development, Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management, Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB, and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, BIBD.
His Royal Highness launched 26 new books published by UNISSA.
UNISSA’s newly published books included a journal, 4 monographs as well as 20 academic books are hoped to become reference materials for researchers, and act as a platform for the public to enrich the reading materials, apart from encouraging and motivating as well as appreciating UNISSA’s teaching staff to be actively involved in research and writing.
His Royal Highness then signed the rebranding plate of the Business and Science Management Faculty to the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Finance, FEKIm. The rebranding of the faculty was the effort of UNISSA to produce multi-skilled human resources in making the Brunei Vision 2035 a reality. FEKIm provides a structure of programmes and modules by offering a Bachelor Degree in Islamic Economy, Masters in Islamic Economy and Philosophy of Doctorate in Islamic Economy. Currently, 35 undergraduates are undergoing the Science in Islamic Finance Bachelor Degree, and 11 others in Bachelor Degree in Business Management for the 2016-2017 session.
This year’s Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj also focuses on the field of business by 4 UNISSA graduates who proved that the institution is capable of producing independent graduates. Their involvement in the Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj can inculcate the culture of entrepreneurial among the students.
His Royal Highness then received a pasambah in the form of a Mushaf Al-Quran and a box embedded with shells from the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj is held until this Sunday. A variety of programmes and activities have been lined up, including a forum on Islamic Entrepreneurship and a calligraphy competition. The festival was held to further enliven the Haflut Takharruj UNISSA or UNISSA’s Convocation Ceremony, and celebrate the graduands who have completed their studies. The Haflut Takharruj will be held on the 22nd of this month.
