The Ministry of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to promptly notify Vietnamese airlines, agencies and units involved in the operation of flights to/from Con Dao.
“The suspension of these flights applies from 5 pm tomorrow (June 5) until further notice,” the Ministry of Transport informed.

Previously, on June 3, the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam and airlines, requesting to suspend flights to Con Dao to prevent epidemics. The People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province said that the prevention of COVID-19 epidemic in Con Dao faced many difficulties because it was far from the mainland, in which medical conditions, capacity and support from the mainland were not timely.
Con Dao currently has 10,000 people, while there are many direct flights to bring tourists from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Can Tho, Vinh, Thanh Hoa to Con Dao.
Therefore, in order to actively implement the “on-the-spot” anti-epidemic motto as well as prevent the disease from entering Con Dao, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province proposes to the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam and airlines. The airline decided to suspend flights to Con Dao.
In a related development, on June 4, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam also sent a document to airlines, Cat Bi International Airport, Northern and Southern Airport Authority about suspending flights. Ho Chi Minh City – Hai Phong and vice versa.
Accordingly, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Transport on the policy of suspending flights from Hai Phong to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa until the epidemic situation is under control as proposed by the City People’s Committee. In Hai Phong, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested airlines to urgently suspend flights from Hai Phong to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa under the direction of the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport assigned the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Department of Health, Transport, and agencies and units under the Hai Phong City People’s Committee to continue monitoring the epidemic situation so that the declaration can be adjusted accordingly.
