Team Lakay Focuses on Nurturing Young Talents for Future MMA Success
La Trinidad, Benguet – Team Lakay, renowned for producing top international mixed martial artists, is nurturing the next generation of fighters through its ‘Future Champion Kids Training’ program. The initiative, announced by Lakay coach Mark Sangiao on Friday, is set to take place at the Team Lakay mixed martial arts (MMA) gym in La Trinidad, Benguet.
According to Philippines News Agency, continuing the legacy of renowned athletes like Eduard ‘Landslide’ Folayang and Joshua ‘The Passion’ Pacio.
Sangiao, a former MMA champion, emphasized the program’s focus on developing not just fighters, but disciplined and resilient individuals. Currently, 15 youth, aged 9 to 12 years old, are enrolled in the free training, which encompasses MMA, boxing, and various martial arts skills. The training approach is centered on creating a level playing field for all participants, regardless of their prior experience in martial arts. This unique foundation highlights Team Lakay’s belief in the potential of untapped talent. Monthly assessments are conducted to gauge the progress of each child, and participants are required to continue their academic studies, reinforcing time management and discipline. The evaluations allow trainers to track each child’s development, focusing on their strengths and areas needing improvement.
