Taganito Mining Corporation Highlights 24 Successful Cooperatives in Butuan City
BUTUAN CITY: A local community in Claver, Surigao del Norte, has transformed a PHP100,000 seed capital into a thriving multimillion business, including a pharmacy, microlending, hardware, and grocery store. This success story of the PRIME cooperative is one of the 24 showcased by Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) during the two-day People’s Organizations Conference held in Claver, the mining capital of Surigao del Norte. Group leader Marlyn CaƱon shared their journey of growth and diversification, emphasizing the members’ financial independence.
According to Philippines News Agency, TMC’s head of Information, Education, and Communications Section, these 24 People’s Organizations (POs), consisting of cooperatives and livelihood groups, were supported by TMC since 2001. They are involved in various community-based businesses, including agriculture and aquaculture. The conference provided these organizations with valuable insights on product development, market access, networking, and collaboration strategies. The event also included digital empowerment sessions to help POs adapt to online marketing and leverage digital tools for business growth.
