The connecting bridge across the Brunei River from Jalan Residency to Kampung Sungai Kebun in the Brunei Muara District is nearly 90% complete. The project, which costed nearly $140,000,000.00, will be able to reduce traffic congestion around Jalan Tutong by early next year.
The bridge across Brunei River from Jalan Residency to Kampung Sungai Kebun in the Brunei Muara District is almost 90% ready. Construction of the bridge is one of the projects under the 10th National Development Plan, conducted by the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development. The mega project applied the usage of Cable Stayed Bridge with the width of 300 meters and the tower height of 157 meters. The project also includes the construction of 2 flyovers, one at Jalan Residency and the other is at Jalan Sungai Kebun. The bridge also has one gallery and a waterfront, making it a unique construction that can attract both the local residents and tourists. The bridge will connect two main areas, Bandar Seri Begawan and Mukim Lumapas.
Several factors are taken into consideration to realise such construction including its design. The combination of Islamic features, Brunei identity, attentiveness of His Majesty towards the rakyat is given a priority. The bridge will also become a landmark for Brunei Darussalam. The bridge will be the world’s second longest bridge using one Pylon after Spain.
The construction of the bridge symbolised an achievement in the country’s communication field. The 300-metre long bridge if completed will be the first cable stayed bridge in the country.
