Meanwhile, the Khutbah or sermon was delivered by the State Mufti. It highlighted the importance of saying the salam or greeting when visiting or being visited. According to the State Mufti, the words “Assalamualaikum” means “Peace Be Upon You” is a great ‘doa or supplication, an invaluable gift or contribution and replying in kind is an obligation. The State Mufti called for the ‘ salam’ to be practised as a way of life and to fill the homes and Hari Raya Celebration with the greeting. If a special guest or speaker says the ‘ salam’ the attendees must reply in clear voice instead of being passive or replying in the heart only.

In the second sermon, the State Mufti talked about a child’s obligation to the parents saying it is inappropriate for the child to neglect his or her parents while the child lives in luxury. This is because all the child’s wealth belong to the parents. Yang Berhormat Pehin said on this auspicious day, those who still have parents should grab the opportunity to take care of their parents. On this first day of Aidil Fitri visit them and ask for their blessings and forgiveness. For those whose parents have passed on, supplicate for them and give alms in their name because Allah will grant and accept the supplication and alms.

Before departing from Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, His Majesty and members of the Royal Family received the junjung ziarah from the congregants.
