Kuala lumpur: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is set to embark on a State Visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 26, 2025. The visit will coincide with his participation in the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, scheduled for August 27, 2025.
According to Radio Television Brunei, during the State Visit, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is expected to have an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia. Following this, he will engage in discussions with Prime Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim at the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation. This consultation serves as a crucial platform for both nations to assess their ongoing bilateral cooperation and explore new areas for collaboration.
The Annual Consultations, which began in 1997, are alternately chaired by Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. Last year, Brunei hosted the 25th Annual Consultation on August 26, 2024. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s most recent State Visit to Malaysia was from August 2 to 4, 2023, in line with the 24th Annual Leaders’ Consultation.
Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia have maintained diplomatic relations since 1984, fostering strong cooperation in fields such as economy, education, defence, health, and people-to-people exchanges. The countries also collaborate closely on regional and international fronts through organizations such as ASEAN, BIMP-EAGA, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the United Nations (UN).
