Post: Sultan of Brunei Holds Audience with EU’s High Representative

Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, received Her Excellency Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, at Istana Nurul Iman. Her Excellency's visit comes as part of a two-day trip to the nation.

According to Radio Television Brunei, this visit marks Her Excellency's first official trip to Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the 25th ASEAN-European Union Ministerial Meeting. Brunei, serving as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations from 2024 to 2027, is hosting the meeting, which aims to enhance the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership. Discussions are set to focus on priority areas and the exchange of views on regional and international issues important to both parties.

The collaboration between Brunei and the EU is strengthened through multilateral platforms such as the ASEAN Regional Forum and the Asia-Europe Meeting. These forums facilitate cooperation in trade, investment, and security. Her Excellency was accompanied by His Excellency Denis Chaibi, Non-Resident EU Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam; Michal Safianik, Member of the Cabinet of the High Representative; Erik Kurzweil, Managing Director for Asia and Pacific, European External Action Service; and Romain Seignovert, Communication Expert, European External Action Service. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.
