Sorsogon Groups Receive P900K Seed Funding for Food Projects from DSWD


SORSOGON CITY — Two community associations in Sorsogon province have been granted a total of PHP 900,000 in seed funding by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) to launch food-related enterprises, as part of the government’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).



According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-Bicol project development officer for SLP, the funds were distributed during the “Lab For All” caravan on Thursday, an event promoting sustainable economic development in the region, led by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos. Each of the two SLP associations—Sto. Niño Rice Retailers SLPA of Sorsogon City and Rice and Feeds Sta. Cruz SLPA of Casiguran town—received PHP450,000 to initiate their proposed livelihood projects.



These financial injections are aimed at bolstering the economic conditions of over 60 members of these associations, enhancing both their livelihood prospects and regional economic stability. The First Lady’s involvement underscores the national commitment to fostering local economic growth through community-based projects. DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio emphasized the agency’s dedication to supporting these associations toward achieving economic self-sufficiency.
